First fix

Plumbing, electrics and carpentry in, then plastering and making good.

Second fix and finish

Units, tiling, flooring, decorating and certificates at the end.

Where you need someone else: asbestos removal needs a licensed contractor; structural calculations come from a structural engineer; planning drawings from an architect or designer; and party wall agreements from a party wall surveyor. We will tell you which of these a job needs before you commit to anything, and we can work alongside people you already have.

Can I buy the kitchen or bathroom myself?

Yes, plenty of people do. We will tell you what to order and what is usually missed — it is almost always trims, waste kits and the right adhesive. Or we can supply everything, which puts one company on the hook if something is wrong.

How long is the room out of use?

A like-for-like bathroom is usually a few days; a full refit with re-routed services and tiling takes longer. We give you the programme with the quote so you can plan around it.

Do you move plumbing and electrics?

Yes. Gas Safe registered engineers handle gas and heating, niceic registered electricians handle the electrics, and you get the certificates for the work.

Will you take the old kitchen away?

Yes — Clean Slates Clearance takes the old units, appliances and packaging, so it does not sit in the garden waiting for a skip.

What about tiles and finishes?

Tiling, flooring, decorating and sealing are all part of the job rather than something you need another trade for. We will tell you honestly which finishes are harder to keep looking good.
